Nick Jonas: I want my own voice

8th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Nick Jonas knows it's vital he finds a "voice" without his brothers.

The singer is part of band the Jonas Brothers alongside his siblings Kevin and Joe. The band are currently taking a break from working together to focus on their own projects. After releasing a solo album last year, 18-year-old Nick has been taking his first steps into music production, songwriting and even scoring.

He recently attended a two-week camp about penning lyrics in Bali, alongside other musicians including Australian singer Delta Goodrem.

"Back in December, I started writing and producing for other people," Nick told USA Today. "That's been my focus this year. I also scored a video game, which was really fun. It's been an opportunity to be just as productive as I am with my brothers. I hope that I can have a voice with my brothers, on my own and through other people."

The teen heartthrob, who has starred in hit musical Les Misrables and is set to appear in an American production of Hairspray, would like to work more within this genre.

Nick hopes that by branching out into different areas he will be able to build a durable career in the entertainment industry.

"Musical theatre has a fond spot in my heart. Hopefully, I'll be able to do more of it," he said. "We've taken natural and gradual steps toward the kind of career that we believe will be long-lasting. As we step in our own directions, we'll continue to grow our audiences. When we come together, hopefully all those people will be Jonas Brothers fans, as well as of our individual works." (C) Cover Media
