(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Nicola Roberts drove her family to a remote field to play them her debut solo single for the first time.
The Girls Aloud star released her track Beat of My Drum in the UK earlier this month. Nicola collaborated with US producer Diplo on the upbeat song.
The redheaded singer explained her family was impressed with the song, with her younger siblings huge fans of it.
"I was at home in Liverpool and I had my little brother and sister in the car, drove to a field and played my song really loud," she told Look. "My 14-year-old brother said, That is cool.' Then my little sister, she's 21 and a real girl's girl, said, That is fly.' I'm so proud of it."
Nicola, who was known as the shy member of Girls Aloud, explained it was important for her to release an album that was meaningful. She found the experience nerve-wracking, but is glad she went through with it.
"I didn't want to make a record that was a guaranteed success," she said. "It's taken every last bit of confidence just to release this record. I don't know if it's any good, or if I've just told myself it's good." (C) Cover Media
