Now a Saina Nehwal Biopic

27th May 2014

Biopic is the latest fad that has attracted Bollywood filmmakers. Especially biopics on sportsmen's life have been in vogue.

Be it 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', 'Paan Singh Tomar' and the upcoming biopic on Indian boxer Mary Kom, the idea of putting an olympian's life onscreen has been a fascinating one for Bollywood.

The latest to join the bandwagon is the Bhatt camp. We hear, the camp is interested in making a biopic on India's badminton ace Saina Nehwal.

Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt apparently paid keen attention to Saina's hidden message when she hinted in an interview recently that she'd love to have a biopic made on her life. Mahesh confessed that he is fascinated by her dust to dawn story.

"I am exploring the possibility of making a film on Saina. Her story is fascinating. She is an international icon," said Mahesh. He adds that the film will sure be inspiring for people looking for that little push in life.

"People who have seen the dark, hard and tough side of life and have achieved success in spite of all odds, have always interested me. These days when we are talking about gender equality, seeing more girl achievers is fantastic," he added.

Saina on the other end is happy. "It is a huge privilege that a filmmaker of his stature is considering making a film on me," she said. When asked who she would want to see playing her on screen, the shuttler immediately suggested her favorite actress's name.

"It would be great if Deepika Padukone plays me on screen," Saina adds considering the fact that Deepika herself has been a national-level badminton player in the past and hence will be able to pull of the role better than anyone from the current lot.
