Postlethwaite film up for gong

26th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - One of Pete Postlethwaite's final films has been nominated for a prize.

The British actor passed away back in January at the age of 64 after battling pancreatic cancer.

He had enjoyed a hugely successful career, starring in pictures such as The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997 and 1993's In the Name of the Father, for which he achieved an Oscar nomination.

One of Pete's last parts was The Archivist in 2009 documentary The Age of Stupid, which attempted to raise awareness of climate change.

Directed by Franny Armstrong, the movie is one of the five finalists nominated for the inaugural Impact Award. Other nominees hoping to win the 50,000 euro prize include undercover documentary Burma VJ and Trouble the Water, about a hopeful rapper who survived being trapped in New Orleans floodwaters.

The aim of the award, set up by sportswear brand Puma and Britain's Channel 4 Britdoc Foundation, is to honour cinema which has had an important impact on society.

The winner will be revealed at a gala in London on October 11. Movie star Thandie Newton and Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock are just two members of the judging panel. (C) Cover Media
