The stunning off the shoulder floor-length piece inspired by the 1930s era was purchased by an anonymous bidder in a sale by GOTTA HAVE IT Collectibles.
Victor Edelstein designed the sleek, fitted outfit which the late royal wore to a gala with the President of Hungary in 1992.
The buyer, whose identity was not revealed, paid 5,000 more than the minimum bid required as 12 offers were made for the dress formerly owned by Princess Diana, who was known for her tireless work on behalf of various charities and her domestic troubles with the UK Royal family, reported BNO News.
The princess who died in a Paris car crash in 1997 aged 36 - did a lot of work for charity, and made a big impact on the fashion world during and after her marriage to Charles, Prince of Wales.
The eye-catching fuchsia dress was originally sold by Christies New York in 1997.
Princess Diana helped to put this auction together just months before her tragic death on August 31 [1997]. The sale featured only Dianas dresses and raised over five million dollars, the website said.
A pair of gloves worn by Michael Jackson in the Bad album also sold for $62,000, a diamond ring once owned by Elvis Presley went for $27,000, and a poem penned by tragic Beatles legend John Lennon was bought for $21,000. (C) Cover Media
