Protest against Ramya's film

14th May 2012

Activists of Bajrang Dal and other Hindu outfits staged an agitation in Mangalore against a newly released Kannada film starring Ramya aka Divya Spandana in a pivotal role. They allegedly torched the posters of the movie, saying that it hurt the sentiments of Hindus.

The allegation by the protesters is said that the film titled 'Katari Veera Surasundarangi' contained 'unacceptable' scenes such as a person having 'inclination' towards Lord Indira's daughter and bringing her to earth. 'This is hurting the sentiments of Hindus,' they said.

They staged a protest in front of two cinema halls screening the film. 'Later, as many as 50 agitators set afire the posters of 'Katari Veera Surasundarangi', shouting slogans against its director and producer,' sources said.

Upendra and Ambarish play the main roles in the film. Meanwhile, the latest update is that, with producer Munirathna agreeing to remove the 'objectionable' scenes in the movie, Hindutva organisations have decided to withdraw their protest and allow the screening of the film.
