Ranbir on why he is not a 'Star'

27th May 2013

The excitement meter is at an all time high as fans simply cannot wait until Friday to see Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone light up the screen as their film 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' (YJHD) gears up to hit the theatres. Besides, the movie directed by Ayan Mukerji under Karan Johar's Dharma Productions banner, is also one of the most highly anticipated movies of this year.

From brand-tie-up based movie events to IPL T20, Ranbir and Deepika are leaving no stone unturned when it comes to promoting their film. With high expectations riding on the project, it certainly adds to the pressure not just on the production team, but also on the lead actors. Ranbir took this opportunity to share his thoughts on his approach to 'movie picking' and the role the media has played in his 5-years long career in Bollywood.

Ranbir shared that he did not plan to step into Bollywood with the hope of becoming a 'star'. Besides he does not consider himself to be a star with merely 10 movies to his credit. And he doesn't compare himself to actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan, whom he truly considers to be 'stars'.

The 30-year old actor further added that media has a huge role in shaping him up as an actor, and placing him on the same platform with the biggies of Bollywood. It is that pressure and the high benchmark that has in fact made him work harder and grow as an artist in Bollywood.

The actor stated that he might not be the best pick for movies like '3 Idiots' or 'Dabangg', as the industry already has Aamir Khan and Salman for these projects. So it is most important for every actor including him to find a niche in the industry.

Ranbir did try to do that with his projects like 'Rockstar', 'Raajneeti' and 'Barfi' and he is doing that with his upcoming film 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' as well.

Watching Ranbir is always a treat for the fans and let's hope the actor continues to win hearts with his 'YJHD' at the box office.
