(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Rebecca Black is being home schooled after she was targeted by bullies.
The 14-year-old star gained extensive media attention when her single Friday debuted on video sharing website YouTube in March.
The track, which received 167 million views, was harshly criticised by music critics and viewers alike who dubbed it "the worst song ever".
Since becoming an internet sensation, Rebecca has withdrawn from her Californian school to be educated by her mother.
"When I walk by they'll start singing Friday in a really nasally voice," she told ABC News. "Or, you know, they'll be like, 'Oh hey, Rebecca, guess what day it is?'"
Rebecca's mother, Georgina Marquez, has defended the young songstress. She said her daughter's move to home schooling takes the pressure off her trying to impress her peers.
"She certainly did not need that kind of pressure," she added.
Simon Cowell previously defended the American singer when she received negative reviews about Friday. The music mogul said the teenager had got a winning song because it had garnered so much attention.
"I love her [and] the fact that she's gotten so much publicity. People are so upset about the song, but I think it's hysterical," he said.
Rebecca has now released her latest single, My Moment, which has gained nearly 22.5 million views since Thursday morning. (C) Cover Media
