(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Rihanna says her biggest hit single led to more commercial deals.
The Barbadian singers 2007 smash record, Umbrella, spent ten weeks at number one in the UK alone. She often uses an umbrella as a prop when performing the song.
And Rihanna admits this helped land her an endorsement deal, which was also due to the popularity of the tune.
I did have a deal with an umbrella company and they had a range of very good umbrellas, the 22-year-old told British Q magazine.
But the star thinks its amusing that the subject of her signature tune is rarely used in her homeland. She explained the weather is much too severe in Barbados for the hand-held shield to have a great effect.
This is kind of weird because I grew up in Barbados and theres not a great culture of umbrellas like there is in the UK and Europe. I guess we have the occasional storm or maybe the Caribbean is more known for its hurricanes and an umbrella isnt going to get you very far in a situation like that, she laughed.
However, Rihanna admitted to having a small number at home herself. And the beauty also thanked the umbrella for the positive impact it has had on her.
But, yes, I have a few umbrellas. Maybe ten? I dunno, but I am very grateful to the umbrella for what it has done for my career, she said. (C) Cover Media
