Robert De Niro Makes It To The Cannes Film Festival

January 7, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): The biggest extravaganza of all seasons, Cannes Film Festival is finally here. This time, Cannes Film Festival has zeroed on an American for the post of its jury president. Officials of the Cannes Festival have decided on Robert de Niro as the jury president for the 64th edition of Cannes Film Festival. The festival will be held between May 11-22, 2011 in southern Riviera town. There was a mention of the film Little Fockers which was released in December. The film is currently receiving accolades in France.

The nomination of Robert De Niro as the jury president does not come as surprise to him as he was the founder of the Tribeca Film Festival in the past.The Tribeca Film Festival finally branched out to Doha Festival, about two years back. Robert De Niro also has a long association with the French Festival when he was nominated as the president twice during the eighties. A Robert De Niro starrer film Taxi Driver grabbed the Palme d'Or in 1976. Robert De Niros last film that was screened at the festival was What Just Happened in 2008. The film was a satire and the climactic scene was based on the festival itself. The festival of 2008 also came to an end with the screening of What Just Happened.
