(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Robert Pattinson thinks Bella and Edward's relationship in the Twilight movies is "awful".

The actor plays Edward Cullen in the vampire franchise. The movies focus on the relationship between vampire Edward and human Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart.

MTV reports that despite Edward's huge fan following, Robert doesn't think the character is faultless.

"Girls often say that Edward's sooo perfect,' but he's not," he said in a Q&A session in Brussels. "I do not like people who try to exert control in a relationship, when there is an imbalance. This is very wrong and very strange. [It seems like] the most awful relationship in the world. Fortunately, he finally gives up and he tries not to boss Bella around."

Robert is currently promoting the fourth film in the series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1.

He and co-star Ashley Greene, who plays vampire Alice Cullen in the films, were in Belgium for a fan event last night. The duo were full of praise for the film, but Robert was quick to put distance between himself and Edward.

The Hollywood heartthrob believes he has more of a sense of humour than his sombre character.

"I cannot say that I am similar to Edward," he stated. "From the beginning, the relationship between Edward and Bella is complicated; there is always danger against which they must fight. He thinks far too much, which doesn't really make him light-hearted. That's not how I am at all!" (C) Cover Media
