MUMBAI: Sachin Bhowmick, the yesteryears' legendary writer and director, passed away Tuesday afternoon. His health had been on the decline and he had been ailing for a while. Bhowmick had written stories and screenplays for over 70 films during his lifetime.

He debuted as a writer, starting his career with Mohan Segal's 'Lajwanti', in 1958, starring Nargis. He was best known for his films, 'Brahmachari' (winning the Filmfare Award for Best Story, 1968), 'Aradhana', 'Pehchan', 'Aan Milo Sajnaa', 'Caravan', 'Love In Tokyo', 'Golmaal', 'Do Aur Do Paanch', 'Karma', 'Karan Arjun' and 'Taal'. His recent hit films include 'Koi... Mil Gaya', 'Kisna' and 'Krrish'.

He mainly worked with the filmmakers - J Om Prakash, Nasir Hussain, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Pramod Chakravorty, Subhash Ghai and Rakesh Roshan

Bhowmick is known to have directed only one film in his lifetime, namely, 'Raja Rani', in 1973, starring Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore.
