Salma Hayek: I didn't believe in marriage

26th September 2012

Salma Hayek thought married people were "secretly miserable" before becoming wed herself.

The actress married French billionaire businessman Franois-Henri Pinault on Valentine's Day in 2009. The couple share five-year-old daughter Valentina together.

As a single woman, Salma was nauseated by the concept of matrimony.

"I didn't think marriage worked," she revealed in More magazine's October issue.

"I thought everybody who was married was secretly miserable that it was something they just put up with for their children."

Independent Salma actually deeply appreciates the companionship she finds in Franois-Henri.

Salma feels like her own life has improved dramatically with her spouse's support.

"I have a master of decision-making helping me out, so of course my life and my career are better," she explained.

"I really enjoy having somebody that I can be weak with. If I'm insecure or afraid, I can talk about it, and he'll give me strength and courage. With us, there's no power struggle. I don't mind doing things for him because he does so much for me, and he feels the same way."
