2nd September 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Scarlett Johansson will hold fundraiser nights in support for a New York mayor candidate.

The Hollywood actress is hosting a couple of events to back Manhattan borough president Scott Stringer. Scarlett will target different voting groups with her events, which take place on October 3.

She will firstly be hosting a fete at the Plaza Hotel apartments, with tickets ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. She is also set to hold a party at Jane Ballroom a little later in the evening, where tickets will go for $50 to $1,000.

Sources have told the New York Post that the blonde beauty "will also film Web campaign ads for Stringer."

"Scott's passion for New York is contagious," Scarlett said. "We share a love for this city's diversity and culture. As a native New Yorker with a political history dedicated to community development, Scott's priorities echo my own.

"When Scott is elected mayor, [we] can expect a representative who is focused on making New York a cleaner, greener city, providing affordable housing and preserving the integrity of our varied communities."

Scarlett is the latest star to show her support for candidates in the mayoral race. Anna Wintour and Lily Aldridge have been backing Christine Quinn, while Cynthia Nixon has lent her support to Bill de Blasio.

Stringer is appreciative of Scarlett's unwavering support in his political pursuit.

"I am extremely grateful for Ms. Johansson's support. She has a proven ability to energise young voters, and her participation in our campaign will go a long way towards engaging the multigenerational coalition needed to unify our city," he said.

"I look forward to working closely with her in the years ahead." (C) Cover Media
