(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Taylor Momsen has hinted she sometimes says things for shock value, questioning why she has to tell the truth all the time.

The 17-year-old star is best known for playing Jenny Humphrey in American series Gossip Girl, but also fronts rock band The Pretty Reckless. She has been criticised for wearing overtly sexual clothing at a young age, and for talking about sex and other controversial topics in an open way.

Taylor has now hinted she sometimes says what is expected of her, rather than what she actually thinks.

I will keep some secrets. The record is the closest thing youll get to knowing the truth because why would I tell the truth? I mean Im honest, but why give everything away when you dont have to? she told Perez Hilton.

The Pretty Reckless record Light Me Up was released in America this month, and has sold well on iTunes. She is amazed by its success, as Taylor wasnt sure people would like it. She wrote the album alongside guitarist Ben Phillips, and finds it funny that many presume she had nothing to do with penning the tracks.

I wasnt thinking it would chart at all. I was just sitting there on Twitter all day, going, Oh my God its number eight, seven, [it was] going up and up all day. Its an amazing feeling, she said.
