(Cover) - EN Movies - It has been announced that the Thor sequel will be released in July 2013.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, the action movie recounting the adventures of powerful warrior Thor and his journey from a fantasy realm to live among humans was one of this year's biggest cinema hits.

Movie fans had been eagerly awaiting news of a sequel, with Disney and Marvel Studios confirming the follow-up will be released on July 26 2013.

According to Deadline, 27-year-old Australian actor Chris will reprise his role as the title character. However, Disney have confirmed to MTV News that 50-year-old actor-and-moviemaker Kenneth will not be directing.

Back in May Kenneth had explained how a sequel did appeal to him, although had avoided confirming whether he would actually be involved.

"The prospect of [a sequel] is very tantalising and fascinating," he previously said.

"I loved working with this group of actors and had a fantastic experience working with everyone in the Marvel family." (C) Cover Media
