(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tom Cruise is set to showcase his singing talents in his new movie.
The 48-year-old actor will play ageing heavy metal musician Stacee Jaxx in film Rock of Ages, the big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical.
The actor whose first leading role was in 1983 film Risky Business - will perform a number of popular rock songs from the 70s and 80s, including Styx's Renegade and Bon Jovi's classic Wanted Dead or Alive.
The films director Adam Shankman confirmed the news to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet at yesterdays Oscars.
"He's studying his vocals," Adam explained.
Adam - who helmed the hit screen musical Hairspray in 2007 - believes the star will excel in the role. The director was complimentary of the actors vocal talents saying it was a miracle he could also sing alongside his acting ability.
"He can sing!" he said. "It's a miracle!"
It has also been rumoured that Oscars 2011 host Anne Hathaway will sign on to the project, and will perform a duet of Foreigner's I Want To Know What Love Is with the talented actor. (C) Cover Media
