11th October 2012

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tom Hanks is heading to Broadway.

The 56-year-old actor will make his debut in stage biography Lucky Guy by late playwright Nora Ephron, Variety reports.

Tom will star as Pulitzer Prize-winning crime reporter Mike McAlary.

The play will follow the journalist's personal and professional life until his 1998 death.

Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe will direct.

Further casting details have not been released.

Nora Ephron died of pneumonia in June after a battle with leukemia. She was 71.

A three-time nominee for the best screenplay Oscar, she was famed for her romantic comedies.

Tom, who starred in Nora's Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail, began negotiations for Lucky Guy before her death.

Producer Colin Callender said the crew could "think of no more fitting tribute to her extraordinary writing and remarkable body of work" than to move forward with the play.

"We are honored to be part of her legacy and remain committed to seeing her magnificent work Lucky Guy shine on Broadway," he said in a statement after her passing.

Lucky Guy will open April 2013 at New York City's Broadhurst Theater. (C) Cover Media
