23rd October 2018

It is one of the most anticipated films of the year made on the humongous scale with two legendary Bollywood stars Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan on-board. The sailor of the ship Vijay Krishna Acharya begins writing the draft for the film and the first question that comes to his mind is where on earth are we making these gigantic ships of those times? Well, with a lot of research, recce and conclusiveness the team gets an international studio at Malta where the artists, architect, carpenters and the professionals start working on building the mega ship. The Second chapter is about shooting on the ships which was a task to deliver as a unit. VFX, green screen above, the wave maker and artificial shower creating machines were the resources available; the coordination and keeping things simple at the same time while filming the sequences was an integral part of it. See how Aamir and Amitabh shot for it in Chapter 2 of the making video. Click here to watch.

Moreover, the most heart-breaking part for shoot comes in the third chapter where all the hard work that went in making the ship has to be ripped off. Yes, it is about destroying the ships they have created with such hard work. For the sequence where the ship explodes and for originality, the team destroys the ship with the massive explosion for real. Watch this how they did it in Chapter 3 making video here.

The fourth chapter is the interesting one of all and yes it is about training for the action sequences. How Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Amitabh Bachchan trained for these sequences. A lot of bruises for Fatima during the archery sessions, lessons taken for 'Dangal' came handy for Aamir. Click here to watch chapter 4 making video.

Here we come to the fifth chapter titled 'Costume of the Thugs' and how Vijay Krishna Acharya starts explaining the inspiration of the look of every core cast from the film. The actual attire was from the 1890's era was replicated and costume designer head Rushi and Manoshi explain the struggle of the preparation. How Aamir was dressed up keeping his cunning thief character in mind. How Big B managed the long leathery costume that absorbed a lot of water in the rain sequences. How Fatima took hours for hair styling and getting under the skin of her character. Katrina was the one had designer rustic attire made up of pure mullen fabric and a nose piercing which she never tried before. Click here to watch the 'Costume of the Thugs' making video.
