Will Ferrell: I clap at my movies

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Will Ferrell "claps for himself" when he watches Anchorman.

The American actor is famed for his comedy performances in a string of Hollywood hits including Old School, Elf and Blades of Glory.

His starring role as Ron Burgundy in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is arguably his most iconic performance. Will says the scene where his team of news reporters are singing a song called Afternoon Delight always amazes him.

"I have to clap for myself. That was done on the spot. A capella," he quipped in an interview with BBC Breakfast.

Will is proud of the movie's lasting success. The 44-year-old actor was impressed with how well it was received despite the marketing company behind the film being initially unsure.

"That's why the movie is so near and dear to our hearts," he explained. "They didn't get the idea. It wasn't about news, it was about funny characters. The fact that it gained legendary cult status was great."

Will says a number of comic and crude catchphrases in the film. The funnyman says many people shout them at him when he's walking down the street.

"I get a lot of, Stay classy.' Occasionally, I get, I want to be on you,'" he laughed.

Will is currently promoting his upcoming film Everything Must Go. He plays alcoholic salesman Nick who relapses, which causes him to lose his wife and his job. He holds a yard sale on his front lawn in an attempt to start over and forms new friendships with his neighbours.

Will embraced the challenge of moving away from comedy roles for his most recent appearance on the big screen.

"It's the most dramatic thing I've got to do. It's drama with some funny moments. It allows me to do different things. Luckily, I fared well with critics. Anyone in comedy who does drama meets resistance," he explained.

"I'm not obsessed with people taking me seriously but I like the challenge."

Will appreciates his fellow comedians in Hollywood. The star has listed his favourites.

"Who makes me cry with laughter? There are lots of people. Sacha Baron Cohen, I love him. Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen." (C) Cover Media
