Zac Efron wants a movie role which will help him feel happy when he looks in the mirror.

The 24-year-old star shot to fame thanks to his role in Disney's High School Musical franchise. His pretty boy looks won him fans the world over, but the star is now looking to broaden his appeal.

Zac wants to win a part which will shock people and show them what he is really about.

"I would like a role which is not in the same boring romantic movie," he admitted.

"It's one of the reasons why I have started my own production agency. So I wouldn't have to wait to be asked for a role, and I can start my own project. I want to broaden my public appeal.

"Of course I am obliged to my young fans, but I feel like I need something different that will help me to be happy in the morning looking at myself in the mirror."

There are several famous faces who Zac looks up to. He hopes to replicate their careers as he gets older.

"If I have to be like someone, my only reference nowadays is Leonardo DiCaprio. Other than that I like a few old famous actors, Paul Newman, Steve McQueen and a young Alain Delon," he told Vanity Fair Italy.
