It was earlier reported that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's father Krishnaraj Rai was hospitalised due to his ill health. But he breathed his last on March 18, 2017 at a suburban hospital. His condition was critical from the past few weeks and he was even shifted to the ICU.

His last rites were performed at the Vile Parle Seva Sansthan Shamshan Bhoomi and Bollywood biggies like Shah Rukh Khan, Randhir Kapoor, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and many others attended the funeral.

Krishnaraj Rai is survived by his wife Vrinda Rai, son Aditya Rai and daughter Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Amitabh Bachchan wrote a heartfelt message on his Twitter handle while announcing the sudden demise. He wrote, "T 2468 - Death has but one end .. and words cannot define it ..!!."

He later expressed his gratitude to those who expressed their condolences by tweeting, "T 2469 - To them that express condolence on the passing of Aishwarya's Father .. my gratitude .. !🙏"
