(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Alexander Skarsgrd thinks failure is "definitely underrated".
The Swedish actor is best known for his roles as vampire Eric Northman on the hit HBO series True Blood and Brad Colbert in miniseries Generation Kill. Despite his successful career, Alexander has revealed that life is "all about" failing.
"Failure is awesome," he told Interview magazine. "There's a [Samuel] Beckett quote, where he said, 'Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail better.' I love that quote. I think that's what it's all about. Failure is definitely underrated. Just fail again. Fail better."
Alexander insists he appreciates his True Blood fan base. The 34-year-old likes having an effect on people with his acting, which is why they mean so much to him.
"I think that meeting fans who feel like they know you and they know everything about you is actually very flattering," he explained. "It means a lot to know that what you're doing actually means something to someone."
Alexander doesn't want to get typecast. The star has revealed he is handed a host of movie scripts which are about characters who are very similar to his current one in True Blood.
"I do get a lot of scripts sent to me where they basically want me to play Eric from True Blood, but just a different name in a different movie," he confessed. "That's not interesting to me. I don't want to play a character that I've played for four years on a television show, change the name, and make him a zombie instead of a vampire."
Alexander is excited by "intimidating" film roles. The actor has revealed when he signs on to appear in a movie, he wants to feel nervous because anxiety drives him.
"There's got to be something new, something fresh. I want to almost be intimidated when I embark on a journey. I wouldn't say there's a fear, but I do get slightly nervous in the beginning when that happens, and I like that feeling. That triggers me a lot," he added. (C) Cover Media
