Pakistani actor Ali Zafar has filed Rs. one billion defamation suit at a district court against actress/singer Meesha Shafi who earlier accused Ali of sexual harassment two months ago openly on Twitter.
As per the Geo News, the suit has been filed under the Defamation Ordinance 2002 act and Zafar said Shafi damaged his reputation through false allegations. The defamation suit read, "As the defamatory statements are patently false, it can only be concluded that this malicious campaign has been launched against the plaintiff as part of a motivated conspiracy to tarnish the plaintiff’s good image through making false accusations."
Ali's lawyer states that the actress has harmed the reputation of his client and she has to face court proceedings for the fake allegations she made public.
Here's the breakdown of the Rs 1 billion damages, the notice read: "Be that as it may, that due to the defamatory campaign being spearheaded by the defendant, the plaintiff besides special damages in case of defamation further suffered the following damages: Mental torture Rs 2 crore, Loss of contacts Rs 8 crore, Loss of reputation/goodwill Rs 50 crore, Loss of business opportunities Rs 40 crore."
It was April when Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of sexually assaulting her by giving out a public open letter. Here it is.
