(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amy Winehouse refused to allow her goddaughter to sound cheap when she was recording her new album.
The British singer has been a huge supporter of Dionne Bromfield ever since she revealed she wanted to pursue a music career, helping her launch her debut record in 2009. The 15-year-old is signed to Amys record label, and is now back with a new release called Good for the Soul.
Dionne admits Amy helped her pen some of the tracks on the LP, especially getting involved when she felt Dionne was going down the wrong path.
I kept wanting to put 'innit' into my songs, and she was like, 'You can't have that in there. It's too cheap, Dionne laughed.
Amy also refused to allow Dionne to include any slang in her lyrics. The young star often had to explain what she was trying to say to her mentor, who would then help her rephrase it so it was more appealing to a wider audience.
She's 27 and I'm only 15, so when we were writing stuff I would say certain words and she'd be like, 'What does that mean?' and I'd tell her. Then she'd be able to think of a more articulate word to fit in instead, Dionne is quoted as saying by British newspaper The Sun.
The teenager has previously admitted Amy was invaluable when she was songwriting as she gave her so many good tips warning her not to let her songs sound too cheesy. (C) Cover Media
