Amy Winehouse suffered hallucinations'

28th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Amy Winehouse was suffering from "intolerable hallucinations" in the run up to her death, it has been claimed.

The star passed away in her London home on Saturday. She was 27 and no cause of death will be revealed until toxicology tests come back in a few weeks.

Amy battled addictions to drink and drugs during her life, and while her father Mitch has insisted she was clean when she died it's thought her lifestyle had taken a huge toll on her body. Her family reportedly believe she died from a seizure which may have been triggered by alcohol withdrawal, as the star had reportedly not had a drink for three weeks.

It's now been claimed she regularly experienced hallucinations during the night, seeing people in mirrors and mice on the floor. She also struggled to sleep properly.

"The hallucinations were truly terrifying for Amy. The line between reality and fantasy was increasingly blurred and she found it absolutely intolerable at times. No one can really appreciate how tough it has been for her," a source told British newspaper The Daily Mirror.

"Even if she never touched drugs or alcohol again, she knew that her health had been ruined. There was only so much battering it could take and these side effects were a sorry testament to that. Physically, she was a wreck. It was just heartbreaking."

During Amy's funeral on Tuesday Mitch insisted her life had taken a turn for the better recently. He praised her on/off boyfriend Reg Traviss, saying he and Amy had found love.

"Mitch was absolutely right that she had been happier, particularly since she had started seeing Reg. They had their ups and downs, of course, but we were all hoping that she would have a brighter future. But the problem was that all her years of abuse had really taken their toll. She no longer enjoyed the carefree life she once did," a source told the publication.

Amy was cremated and her ashes will be buried by those of her grandmother Cynthia, who she was close to.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances around Amy's death. While it's not thought her passing was suspicious, they want to piece together what happened during Friday evening.

It's known she was visited by her doctor and given the all clear, but police want to find out who she saw afterwards. Mitch has said she stayed at home playing drums and singing before going to bed, where her security guard found her the next day, but friends believe she may have gone out.

"There is a possibility she left her home at some point during the evening and some of her friends believe she may have headed out later," a source told The Daily Mirror.

It's understood officers have already spoken to Amy's security man and doctor, and also another individual. (C) Cover Media
