(Cover) - EN Movies - Andy Serkis is glad that moviemakers are becoming more accepting of CGI.
The British actor has been dubbed the king of performance capture after using the technology for roles such as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings films and King Kong. Andy will be donning the motion capture suit once more for forthcoming movies Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. He will also be reprising the role of Gollum in the two-part epic The Hobbit. Andy believes directors used to struggle with the concept of CGI, and is glad it's on the increase.
"I love [performance capture] as a use for technology," he told British TV host Lorraine Kelly. "Performance capture can make you be anything. It's a great acting tool. People didn't really understand it but they are beginning to understand it more."
Andy plays Caesar, an ape who becomes the first test subject of a potential cure for Alzheimer's disease in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, scheduled for release later this year. The 47-year-old actor particularly enjoyed portraying the ape, who develops super intelligence.
"[Caesar] is a really great character, who has a great arc," he added. "Now you find out [how the apes took over the world in the Planet of the Apes series]." (C) Cover Media
