Anne Hathaway keen for male role

24th August 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Anne Hathaway wants to make a One Day sequel, where she plays the male lead.

The actress portrays Emma in the new romantic movie, while Jim Sturgess is Dexter. The film follows the pair for 20 years after they meet at university in the UK.

Dexter is a handsome, self-assured hell-raiser, while Emma lacks self-esteem and is far more down to earth. Anne has joked she would love to play Dexter if she had the opportunity.

"I always thought you were more like Emma and I was more like Dexter. We totally, totally were," she said to Jim during an interview for British TV show Daybreak. "Swap roles? I would do that."

Jim also showed an interest in the idea, even coming up with a storyline for a sequel.

"We could do something where we have an accident and swap bodies, or something, or lightning strikes," the hunk suggested.

"Oh yes, like an 80s Disney movie comedy," Anne laughed.

One Day is based on the bestselling novel by David Nicholls. Both Jim and Anne loved the book, with Jim insisting he found it easy to empathise with both characters.

"I don't think blokes just relate to Dexter and girls just relate to Emma," he explained. "There is a bit of both in everyone. I related to Emma on certain levels and I related to Dexter on others."

Anne had to master a northern English accent to play Emma.

There were reports she listened to English rock, ate local delicacies and watched British soap operas to get into the role. However, Anne insists only some of the rumours were true.

"I didn't listen to Def Leppard, and what was the type of cheese? Wensleydale cheese? I don't know what that is," she smiled. "But I did eat Yorkshire pudding and I watched Emmerdale." (C) Cover Media
