Latha Rajinikanth and Soundarya were served with an arrest warrant by the Saidapet Magistrate Court in Chennai following a cheque bounce case. Complaint filed by businessman Sumerchand Bafana of Teynampet. According to the complainant, Soundarya and Latha Rajinikanth had obtained a loan of Rs 20 lakh from him for business exigencies in August 2009. They issued two cheques, dated December 1, 2010, towards repayment. But the cheques were dishonoured by the bank. Bafana filed a complaint on December 24, 2010 at the magistrate court. Accepting the plea, the magistrate said the matter had been settled out of court, making the story a damp squib for the media.
