(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ashton Kutcher believes "there is no gatekeeper of the truth" in media.
The Two and a Half Men actor posted a four-minute long video addressing "the status of integrity of [modern] media and literature" on chime.in website Wednesday.
Ashton surmised that there is absolutely no filter for factuality on the Internet presently.
"I started thinking about that in relation to social media and media today. The threshold to have literature printed and distributed - the cost structure went down to zero dollars. Thereby, there is no gatekeeper of the truth," Ashton said on the video. "We are our own editors, and our own publishers. We are our own printers. Therefore people can bastardize the truth in any way, shape or truth they want."
Ashton believes that fabrication is rampant on the world wide web. He suggests that Internet users make candour a top priority.
"There's a saying that a lie can travel halfway around the world before the truth can hit someone's lips... we really have to take it upon ourselves to instil a level of honesty in our works and the media we create and we share with each other," Ashton urged. "And be certain we are doing our own diligence to ensure what we're saying is for the benefit of another...using our full capacity to share the truth."
Ashton and his wife Demi Moore have been reportedly undergoing a strenuous time in their marriage.
Ashton has been accused of cheating on Demi with 22-year-old Sara Leal in San Diego on the couple's sixth wedding anniversary last month.
Ashton and Demi have not publicly spoken out about the alleged affair.
They have both left cryptic messages on their mutual Twitter accounts in recent weeks and have been rarely been seen in public together.
Sources close to the couple believe their marriage is over.
"The marriage is dead," a source told Star magazine earlier this month. "Demi desperately wanted to save their marriage. But the San Diego cheating scandal is a hard one for her to stomach as it is backed up by photos. It humiliated Demi." (C) Cover Media
