Ashton Kutcher reportedly splashed out on a $100,000 car for Demi Moore in a last-ditch effort to save their marriage.

Last week, Demi announced she is divorcing Ashton. The marriage is thought to have been on the rocks for months following allegations that Ashton was unfaithful on their sixth wedding anniversary in September.

According to TMZ, Ashton decided to buy Demi a "lavish, eco-friendly gift" less than two weeks before the actress confirmed the end of the relationship.

"Ashton Kutcher threw a Hail Mary to save the marriage ... Ashton contacted a high-end car company, to buy a new set of wheels for Demi's birthday," the website reports. "We're told Ashton picked out a 2012 Lexus LS 600h L - and paid North of $100,000."

Ashton reportedly bought the luxury hybrid car on November 9 just two days before Demi celebrated her 49th birthday.

In an interview conducted before their relationship issues were made public, 33-year-old Ashton said that problems could be solved if you made an effort.

"I think it's all about working on the relationship and making it betterwhen it's good," he explained. "Don't wait for a problem to work on things."

Demi and Ashton are believed to have tried to work through their issues using Kabbalah counselling. They also recently spent a weekend away from their home together.

It is not yet known their marriage will be officially dissolved.
