Kamal Haasan’s 'Unnaipol Oruvan' directed by Chakri Toleti is being remade in English as a Hollywood feature film, 'A Common Man' featuring Academy Award winner, Ben Kingsley in the lead.
Ben Cross, another British actor is replacing Mohanlal as the lead role in Hollywood.
'Unnaipol Oruvanwas' was originally made in Bollywood as 'A Wednesday', which was directed by Neeraj Pandey.
Although the Hollywood version was inspired by the original genre of the Hindi version, it was said that it wouldn’t get the same acclaim as its Hindi and Tamil versions. This was said because the director of the English version - Chandran Rutnam, a Sri lankan who lived in Los Angeles for 38 years, adapted the story line but made big changes in it to make the film a different one.
Kingsley’s character is a man pushed to his limits. He eventually resorts to violent means.
However, the cherry-on-top is that the Hollywood film 'A common man' will have music composed by Tamil music director, Ramesh Vinayakam.
Hats off Kollywood, having Ben Kingsley act in a Tamil remake is indeed commendable!
