13th February 2015

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been a part of various social causes. But this time around, the cause that he has decided to be a part of is about a step towards preserving the heritage of Indian films.

He will inaugurate the Film Heritage Foundation's upcoming workshop on preserving and restoring films. Not many know that the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF) is a non-profit organization, that was set up by film-maker Shivendra Singh Dungarpur last year.

The organization is dedicated to supporting the conservation, preservation and restoration of films. In order to promote this, FHF is organizing a week-long film restoration workshop for students from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The workshop is titled 'Film Preservation & Restoration School India 2015', and Amitabh is extremely proud to be associated with them.

"I think the Film Preservation & Restoration School India 2015 (the workshop) is a pioneering initiative to save India’s cinematic heritage and I am happy to support and endorse the cause by being the chief guest at the opening ceremony... I hope that this will be the start of a movement to save our cinema," he said.

He further added on why he joined hands with them. "When I met Shivendra of FHF, I was shocked to hear how much of our rich cinematic legacy we had lost, and that we will lose many more of our classics if urgent steps are not taken for their preservation and restoration" he added.

The workshop will be inaugurated by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, on February 22.
