Bobby Brown not the reason Houston's gone'

30th April 2012

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Bobby Brown says he "didn't get high" on hard drugs before meeting his late ex-wife Whitney Houston.

Whitney's death was revealed by authorities to be caused primarily by a sustained use of cocaine.

Bobby walked out of Whitney's funeral early in February and the New Edition singer has invited blame from some for the music legend's demise.

"I didn't get high [on narcotics] before I met Whitney," Bobby told Matt Lauer in an upcoming interview on the Today show. "I smoked weed, I drank the beer, but no, I wasn't the one that got Whitney on drugs at all. [She did them] way before [we got together]. It's just... it's just unexplainable how one could, you know, [say that I] got her addicted to drugs. I'm not the reason she's gone."

The couple partook in substance abuse together when they were still wed, but Bobby doesn't believe that he should be condemned for this dark past.

"[The things people say] makes me feel terrible," he said. "But you know, I know differently. I think if anyone ever knew us, if anybody ever spent time around us instead of time lookin' through the bubble, they would know how we felt about each other. They would know how happy we were together."

"We looked at the bubble and saw ourselves. We was able to see what other people were saying about us, you know? We was able to see that our drug use had affected our relationship, had affected the love that we felt for each other.

Bobby was recently arrested in California on DUI charges. He stated during the interview that he's been drug-free for "the last seven years".

The full conversation with Matt Lauer airs Wednesday. (C) Cover Media
