January 4, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): Kannada films Boss and Kanteerava will be hitting theaters at almost the same time this month, with a one week gap between the release dates of both, thus starting a debate among fans and audiences as to which film will fare better at the box office. Both Boss and Kanteerava come with a lot of expectations and it is expected that both will cash in at the Friday box office, but unfortunately one film may clash with the other, thus forcing the audience to choose between the two. On the other hand, Boss and Kanteerava both may appeal to the audiences tastes.
Boss has popular and established names like Darshan and Raghu Raj while Kanteerava also has the star power of action hero Vijay. According to history of films in the Kannada film industry, it is always the second film that suffers when two equally popular films hit theaters back to back. Therefore, if this logic indeed comes into effect, Kanteerava will fail to entertain the masses. However it is important to remember that Kanteerava is a remade version of the blockbuster film Simhadri. While many would argue that remakes in most cases do not work, we have to remember that the producer in this case is Ramu Enterprises, the house which is famous for producing the best remakes of the Kannada film industry.
Boss has an original storyline, for which the audience may flock to theaters, nevertheless it will be wrong to write off Kanteerava. Therefore it is going to be a tough battle at the box office over the upcoming two weekends in Kannada cinema.
