Brad Pitt defends director at Cannes

16th May 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Brad Pitt launched The Tree of Life at the Cannes International Film Festival today, defending director Terrence Malicks decision not to discuss the movie.

The 47-year-old US actor stars in Terrences fantasy drama following the lives of a family with three boys in the 50s alongside Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain.

Terrence is famously publicity shy, so decided not to attend a conference after the movies debut press screening today, which Brad considered a fair decision.

"An artist should not have to be a salesman," explained Brad.

Meanwhile, producer Sarah Green explained the moviemaker is very shy.

The Tree of Life was one of the festivals most eagerly awaited participants, and is in the running for the coveted Palme d'Or prize, with the event now at its halfway point. Cannes organisers had initially planned to showcase The Tree of Life last year, although Terrence withdrew it from the festival at the last minute. In the movie Brad portrays strict but caring father Mr. O'Brien. (C) Cover Media
