Britney Spears interested in The X Factor'

23rd February 2012

Britney Spears is eager to be an X Factor judge to show she's "back to her best".

The singer has reportedly told Simon Cowell she would love to appear on the US version of the talent programme, following the departure of previous judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.

The 30-year-old star has been in the business for well over ten years and thinks her knowledge would serve contestants well. She is also said to be excited about the prospect of putting her infamous 2008 meltdown behind her.

"She's a huge fan of The X Factor and thinks it's the perfect time for her to be a judge. She wants to show her fans she is back to her best and where better to do that than on national TV every week?" a source told British newspaper The Sun.

"She knows all about the ups and downs of pop fame. And with her schedule relatively clear she has the time to dedicate to a different project."

It's thought Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and Beyonc Knowles are also in the running for a spot on the panel.

Simon is keen to make the programme as popular as its rival American Idol so is taking his time choosing the judges.

It's been suggested Britney could be a shrewd pick as people are so intrigued about her. Although she has been in the limelight over the last few years, she is still the subject of a conservatorship. It means other people, including her father Jamie, make decisions for her. Britney doesn't talk about her private life much and appearing on a TV show could be a way for her to get closer to her fans.

"Britney has had a tough few years but this would put her back at the very top. She would be great for the show and it could be great for her," a music professional told the publication.

"In terms of excitement and intrigue Britney would top them all."

The job also comes with a big pay cheque, with Jennifer Lopez rumoured to take home in the region of $12 million per series of American Idol.
