Cameron Diaz: Algebra doesn't aid life

27th June 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Cameron Diaz says learning algebra at school doesn't equip kids for later life.

The Hollywood actress, who is currently starring in comedy Bad Teacher alongside Justin Timberlake, insists if she hadn't made it in the film industry she had a failsafe plan to become a teacher.

Despite learning so much practical life lessons in her own home economics classes, she doubts that it would be so highly valued nowadays.

The blonde beauty thinks schools concentrate too much on subjects that don't equip teens for the practical things later on in life.

"I like to cook and I like to clean so I think I would be a pretty good home economics teacher," she is quoted as saying. "But they don't teach kids that anymore. They don't teach stuff that you can actually use in life. You learn stuff like algebra instead. So now we eat out all the time and don't know how to look after ourselves. It's all wrong."

Cameron plays a foul-mouthed, lazy and selfish middle school teacher called Elizabeth Halsey in the upcoming comedy film, who pursues her wealthy colleague. (C) Cover Media
