August 19, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Julia Roberts starrer Eat Pray Love has upset Catholic Church leaders. They have criticized the movie for overlooking the importance of faith. The movie adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's bestselling travel memoir has also disappointed the Catholic News Service officials, Washington. They said that Julia has failed to seek proper spiritual guidance in the 'Eat' segment of the film.
In a review by CNS' John Muldering, he said that the character played by Robert goes around every restaurant in town while giving churches a pass. This suggested that her character ignores Catholicism for getting insight. The movie has received an 'L' classification from the news service that means the movie might create problem among the stanch Catholics as they would find the content of the film troubling.
The situation took a worse turn when Julia started practicing Hinduism recently, even though she grew up as a Catholic. While shooting for the 'Pray' section of the film in India, Julia spent some time in an ashram and this has been the inspiration behind her taking up the religion. The news was confirmed by the actress saying that she is definitely a practicing Hindu.
