(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Cee Lo Green decided to listen to Iggy Pop after being warned his music contained satanic messages.

The 36-year-old star has enjoyed international success with F**k You and was named best international male at the BRIT Awards in the UK this week. Cee-Lo has always felt a connection to music and experimented with different genres from a young age. As a boy, he regularly attended church and even though he was advised not to listen to outrageous punk rocker Iggy Pops songs, he couldnt help but feel intrigued and decided to give him a chance.

The first time I heard about Iggy Pop was in a seminar about playing rock music backwards in church. They said you get satanic messages from it, which of course made me want to find out more, Cee Lo explained to Q magazine. Iggy is the godfather of punk. He made raunch and dirt sexy. A lot of musicians suffer from caring too much, and you hear an anal meticulousness in the production. With Iggy Pop it is what it is the raw power.

Cee Lo believes its important to appreciate different types of music. As well as being a fan of Iggys material, he has also revealed he enjoys listening to an album released by British band Portishead. The star was deeply affected by the groups debut record Dummy - which features tracks such as Numb and Glory Box - comparing it to a stunning, mysterious woman.

The first time I heard Portisheads album Dummy I said, What the f**k is that? Its so striking, the musical equivalent of meeting a beautiful, strange looking woman like Grace Jones, he added. It takes me to an alternative area in my mind. Its a sound that represents all the nuances and quirks of my character that I cant control. I would love to work with these guys some time, presuming they arent total assholes. (C) Cover Media
