(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Charlotte Church decided to split with Gavin Henson after she had a change of heart when they spent time apart.

The Welsh singer parted ways with the rugby player earlier this year, just weeks after they got engaged. The pair had been together for five years and have two kids.

Charlotte insists she was excited about spending the rest of her life with Gavin when he popped the question, but then things changed. Gavin travelled abroad to shoot a reality television show which saw him trekking across the Arctic Circle, and being alone made Charlotte re-evaluate their relationship.

Hes a lot more grown up and open. I think he learned a lot about himself and hed never had time to sit back and reflect before, she told Heat magazine. Hed been so busy with rugby, and thats such a psychological game. I think that lived in his mind rather than any sort of self-discovery. So he was always quite closed.

When he proposed, I was overjoyed. It was amazing. I really was going to marry Gav and spend the rest of my life with him. But then he came back from Norway and hed changed and Id had time to think.

We had both had a change of heart - so we were both of the same mind.

Several weeks after the split speculation began that Charlotte was dating guitarist Jonathan Powell. She has since confirmed they are an item, but has insisted they only got together once she was no longer with Gavin.

Charlotte has now opened up about her new relationship, revealing she discussed it with her ex-fianc before anything happened. [Johnny] is really great, hes lovely but to be honest, Im pretty self-sufficient. Its all very early stages at the moment, she told the publication.

Its great because we like the same stuff. Hes very intelligent, very clever and hes an amazing musician. Thats where most of the bond lies. A lot of the time were together we write songs, talk about music. We just like the same stuff, the same films its nothing groundbreaking.

Id been writing with Johnny for a while, but it was a good couple of months after me and Gav split. I kind of asked Gavs permission in a way. I said to him, I really want you to know that nothing ever went on between me and Johnny while we were still together. When Im a taken woman, Im a taken woman thats the way I see things.
