Christina Hendricks recalls brush with death

19th October 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Christina Hendricks felt "a sense of calmness" when she thought she was going to die.

The actress was in a near-fatal car accident when she was just a child. Her family had been enjoying some time in the countryside when the incident occurred.

Their VW camper van came off the road, and the whole family feared they wouldn't make it.

"We just slowly went off the road into this ditch and we didn't know how deep it was we really thought we were dying," she told FOX411 Pop Tarts.

"My mom went, OK everyone, here we go.' And luckily we stopped, after about five feet down. But we were tilted in this snow bank, my dad had to go out and hitchhike and get us pulled out. It was terrifying. I remember feeling a sense of calmness. I was like, Oh, this is the calm you get before you die.'"

Christina remembered the incident while promoting new video game Need for Speed: The Run. She is Sam Harper in the release, a woman who loves fast cars. The game is the latest in the car racing series, and Christina found shooting it tough.

Although she acted out the part her character was created using CGI, with the actress donning a motion capture suit.

"They're capturing you from every angle. So you don't have to move cameras and you don't have to light. And you don't have to do all the things that you would do in TV of film. It's very strange. It's very surreal," she said. "It felt like doing a play because you're on set and you have to sort of imagine your surroundings.

"You show up and they put you in a skin-tight suit with your head coming out, and put dots all over your face so you feel absolutely bizarre. And you're in this Velcro-y kind of suit just walking around." (C) Cover Media
