(Cover) - EN Showbiz - The son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver is expected to make a full recovery from his debilitating surfing accident, it has been reported.

While surfing on a beach in Malibu last Sunday Maria and Arnold's son Christopher Schwarzenegger sustained serious injuries. Christopher suffered from several broken bones and a collapsed lung and is currently recuperating at an intensive care unit in Los Angeles.

Although Christopher was considered critically injured earlier this week, medical personnel have upgraded his condition. Arnold and Maria issued a joint statement on Christopher's recovery process today.

"A few days ago our son Christopher suffered an accident at the beach. While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends," said Maria and Arnold in a statement made to USA Today. "He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery."

Surrounded by loved ones Chris' vigor is slowly returning. His family is very appreciative of all the people besides them who fought for Christopher's health.

"On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son. They have been extraordinary to him and to us." said Maria and Arnold. "We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and ask for respect and privacy for Christopher and our family."

Christopher is recuperating in the midst of a divorce between his parents. Maria and Arnold began court proceedings this week to end their 25-year marriage after it was revealed that Arnold fathered a child with another woman. (C) Cover Media
