During her first day on the job Thursday, Britney took a "break" as four contestants performed to three judges and an empty chair.
TMZ reports that Britney is afforded such allowances in her contract.
"[Britney secured] unheard of [deal terms]," a source told the website. "Simon is a smart and shrewd businessman who knew Britney could make his show and he was willing to give her just about anything to come on board -- and he did."
Britney is still the subject of a conservatorship order following her 2008 meltdown. It means her personal and professional decisions are overseen by her father and her fianc Jason Trawick, among others.
