David Arquette has gushed about his new girlfriend and says the relationship is "serious."

The 40-year-old actor has been dating television reporter Christina McLarty since last summer following his split from Friends star Courteney Cox in 2010.

But David, who recently celebrated one year of sobriety after battling his addictions for years, says he is happy with his lady love.

"We're serious," David told E! Online with a big smile. "But we're having fun."

Christina added that they were "enjoying the moment" although their busy schedules sometimes kept them apart.

While the brunette beauty works for Entertainment Tonight in New York City, David lives in Los Angeles where he can be close to his seven-year-old daughter Coco.

"We're making it work," David said of the long-distance romance. "We try to do a no more than two weeks [apart] rule."

Christina revealed that when she does come to LA the twosome just "chill" out and "don't really go out that much."
