David Fincher: I couldnt resist Dragon movie

31st December 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - David Fincher had been working his ass off for 20 years for a project like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The 48-year-old director is due to release his take on the thriller next year, which follows hacker Lisbeth Salander and journalist Mikael Blomkvist as they try to solve a gruesome crime. The film is based on the first novel in a trilogy by deceased Swedish author Stieg Larsson which has already been adapted into a Swedish movie - and David admits he couldnt turn down the chance to be at the projects helm.

David is celebrated for his gritty and stylish thrillers such as Se7en and Zodiac, and although hes reluctant to get typecast in the serial killer movie genre, he is passionate about such films.

Dragon Tattoo came along and I was like Awww f**k man you cannot make another serial killer movie youve got to f**king stop this. And it wasnt really even it was Michael Lynton and Amy Pascal and Scott Rudin to an extent but mostly from the studio side that they were committed to this idea that there could be that there was a hope that you could do a franchise movie for adults, he explained to Collider.

And I thought f**k man, Ive been working my ass off for 20 years, hoping that somebody would say something like this.

Davids version of the movie will star upcoming actress Rooney Mara as Lisbeth and British heartthrob Daniel Craig as Mikael, and is eagerly awaited by fans of the best-selling novels. The moviemaker thinks his take on the gritty tale will be revolutionary, and he hopes to leave a strong legacy behind for the thriller genre.

And I just thought, you get an opportunity to hopefully pave the way for something like that to happen you know, that would be a great thing, he added. (C) Cover Media
