Did A.R. Rahman advise Manirathnam to drop 'Ponniyin Selvan'?
11th May 2011
With the entire Indian film industry keenly looking into the next project of Manirathnam, namely 'Ponniyin Selvan', it has turned out to be a major disappointment for the movie-buffs. The film boasted a big star-cast consisting of Vijay, Mahesh Babu, Arya, Anushka Shetty and Priyanka Chopra but on the spur of moment the project was dropped, due to some financial problems.
Moreover, it has been hinted that it might have been A.R. Rahman, who would have suggested that Manirathnam keep away from period films, as there are more films of the same genre in the process. As an alternative, they have decided to kick-start a breezy romantic entertainer with newcomers in lead roles and A.R. Rahman has impressed Manirathnam with 5 spellbinding tracks. If everything goes well, the film will go on the floors shortly and Manirathnam seems to be involving himself over the casting.
