David Lynch and his wife Emily Stofle have welcomed their first child together.

The surrealist filmmaker, who has helmed classic films such as Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, and Emily greeted baby Lula Boginia Lynch late last month.

David, 66, and actress Emily, 35, married in 2009 and are elated with their new edition.

"Director David Lynch and his wife, Emily, proudly announce the birth of their first child together, Lula Boginia Lynch, who was born on Aug. 28," David's representatives told USA Today.

The director, who has been practicing transcendental meditation since the 1970s, now has a new life to reflect on.

David has spoken previously about how meditating helps him find peace.

"It's beautiful" he gushed to British newspaper The Guardian.

"We're beautiful. Happiness lies within. Enlightenment is our birthright."

David and Emily met on the set of the director's 2006 mystery film Inland Empire.

David is three times divorced and he is also father to three adult children.
