Dominic Cooper: I needed Van Damme tips

26th July 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Dominic Cooper says a haircut change in the style of Jean-Claude Van Damme may have helped him make The Devil's Double.

The 33-year-old British actor played dual characters in the biographical drama about Iraqi army lieutenant Latif Yahia being ordered to become the body double of Saddam Hussein's son Uday.

Dominic worked hard on both roles, although he has joked he should have looked to Belgian star Jean-Claude for advice after he famously played dual characters in 1991 action movie Double Impact about separated twins.

In an interview with Empire magazine Dominic teased that simply signifying the different characters with a change of haircut like Jean-Claude did "probably would have worked just as well".

In reality, the actor made a conscious effort to ensure viewers could distinguish between Latif and Uday. He spent a particularly long time working on the differences in accent.

"The vocality changes in the two men will help you differentiate between them, and the body language too. You have to be sure who you are watching at any given time. I wanted that to be clear," explained Dominic. (C) Cover Media
