(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Drake seeks melodic "consistency" when composing an album.

The 24-year-old Canadian rapper is preparing for the release of his upcoming record Take Care. Although Drake can choose to work with any producer in the industry, the musician prefers to stick to his roots.

The Toronto native's production for this album was largely done by long-time friend and collaborator Noah 40' Shebib.

"The majority of producers, not only would I record it with 40, but I might take the beat apart with 40 and add elements that weren't there before that just because I need a consistent thread," Drake told MTV News.

"He knows if I like a beat, he'll send it over to us and allow us to maybe creatively beef it up or strip it down or add one thing."

Drake trusts Noah with delivering the sound that the musician desires on a track. The rapper admits that he and Noah are so in synch that it is sometimes difficult to work with other producers.

"With that being said, I also need sonic consistency, so I need that presence in a Timbaland beat or someone's beat," Drake explained. "There's times when I really can't even use someone else's production because as much as I know that joint can be crazy, I want a consistent sound."

Drake is happy with the music he and his collaborators created on his newest album. He feels that that the effort he put into the record exhibits his growth as an artist.

"[My last album] Thank Me Later was just song, song, song, song, song, whereas [my 2009 EP] So Far Gone was a consistent thread," Drake said. "It was a story to me. And Thank Me Later, I sort of didn't have enough time mentally to piece together a story. It's very tedious."
